Allowances for full-time NSmen (NSFs) will be raised from July 2025, by four to five per cent for most. Monthly allowances will go up by between S$35 and S$75, meaning NSFs will get between S$790 and S$1,955 depending on rank and vocation. This was revealed by Senior Minister of State for Defence Heng Chee How in parliament on Monday (Mar 3). The last adjustment was in July 2023. The Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) has also been reviewing its medical classification system to better assess medical fitness and functional capacity. Since 2022, about 300 pre-enlistees with orthopaedic conditions were assessed beyond standard medical screening and two-thirds have been able to contribute more effectively in a wider range of roles, said Mr Heng. More jobs are also being redesigned. Since 2021, more than 1,000 NSmen have taken on roles such as combat medic, infantry carrier vehicle operator and military police, which they would otherwise not have been eligible for. Mr Heng also spoke about upholding a strong safety culture in the SAF and about the new Central Manpower Base in Bukit Gombak which will open progressively from mid-2025.
