Committee of Supply 2026 debate, Day 5: Sun Xueling on earlier access to amenities, services for residents in large new HDB estates
The government is acting to improve the move-in experience for residents in new, large-scale HDB estates. At least one bus service will start operating in tandem with the first batch of BTO-flat key collection. To ensure access to cooked food and groceries, HDB will bring forward the completion of shops and increase the rent-free period. Childcare centres will be sited in the first Build-to-Order blocks to be completed, so they can start operating earlier. HDB will also provide for ready sheltered linkways and disposal of bulky waste. Senior Minister of State for National Development Sun Xueling gave the details in parliament on Wednesday (Mar 4). She also announced enhancements to the Third Child Priority Scheme to allow more families to secure a flat, and shared measures to keep HDB rental rates reasonable and competitive.
