Janil Puthucheary on public hospital bed occupancy rates
The annual average public hospital bed occupancy rate over the next five years will be around 80 per cent, based on the Ministry of Health's modelling. Senior Minister of State for Health Janil Puthucheary said this in reply to Parliamentary questions on Thursday (Mar 10). He noted that a rate of less than 85 per cent is generally recommended to ensure patient safety. Dr Puthucheary added that while there may be temporary increases over the recommended rate, such as during mass casualty situations and pandemics, public healthcare institutions have mitigated the risks by managing patient flow, introducing measures such as the use of telehealth technologies and right-siting care into the community.
