Koh Poh Koon on smaller migrant worker dormitories
The Government intends to implement the expansion of the Foreign Employee Dormitories Act by the end of this year to cover smaller migrant worker dormitories. These include factory-converted dormitories, construction temporary quarters, temporary occupation licence quarters and non-governmental organisation shelters. There are currently more than 1,000 of such smaller dormitories. The significant number of dormitory beds across a diverse range of housing types and the broad landscape of operators require more time to engage these groups to better understand the infrastructural constraints and the impact of the licensing requirements, especially on smaller dormitories. Senior Minister of State for Manpower Koh Poh Koon said this in reply to an MP's questions in Parliament on Tuesday (Mar 8).
