Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim on cause of oil leak at Police Coast Guard's Brani Regional Base

05:45 Min

The oil leak at the Police Coast Guard’s Brani Regional Base on Feb 5 this year was caused by a damaged fuel hose, which had developed “micro-cracks due to cyclical stresses during routine coiling and uncoiling” which eventually led to a tear that caused the fuel spillage. Minister of State for Home Affairs Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim said this in parliament on Thursday (Feb 27). In his reply to an MP’s questions, he added that the Police Coast Guard’s maintenance and reporting protocols are consistent with industry best practices, but that these protocols are being reviewed to further reduce the likelihood of leaks of such magnitude in the future.
