Raj Joshua Thomas on Singapore’s COVID-19 response
The pandemic response was a massive effort by all quarters of Singapore society, said NMP Raj Joshua Thomas. Speaking in Parliament on Tuesday (Mar 21), he said in dealing with an enemy of which little was known, it should not be unexpected that there was a good amount of shifting and adjusting. He also commended Leader of the Opposition Pritam Singh and his Workers’ Party (WP) for its position on seeking unity of purpose and supporting the Government in dealing with the crisis instead of “opportunistically” seeking political mileage. He said this ensures that Singapore will be able to focus on dealing with the critical and urgent issues without being distracted by political challenges and considerations. He said WP’s stance is “patently responsible” and added that it is a “type of politics that we want to see in Singapore”. He said this should give all Singaporeans confidence that in times of crisis, "we will unite as a country, as a society and as a polity".
