Sharael Taha on Retirement and Re-employment (Amendment) Bill
Raising the retirement and re-employment ages must be accompanied by efforts to reduce, and ultimately eliminate, barriers to a truly age-friendly labour market, said MP Sharael Taha in Parliament on Tuesday (Nov 2). He made three proposals. First, expediting the legislation of fair employment practices for older workers; second, implementing fundamental changes in human resource policies so that seniors who do not have to work will still want to work - for instance, proper training plans for mature workers and offering flexi-work; third, promoting an all-round approach to redesigning jobs to tap seniors’ strengths. Mr Sharael also urged the Government to do more to support SMEs in putting all these proposals into practice.
