Sun Xueling on child access in divorce and custody cases

09:09 Min

The Ministry of Social and Family Development is unable to provide the specific number of cases where one spouse falsely alleges during the divorce process that the other spouse has abused the child in order to prevent custody, care and control, or access to the child. This is because the Family Justice Courts does not have such data available. But it is an offence to provide false information to a public servant. From 2019 to 2021, an average of about 80 people were convicted annually of such an offence but this is not limited to allegations of child abuse in divorce proceedings. Minister of State for Social and Family Development Sun Xueling said this in reply to an MP's question in Parliament on Friday (Feb 18).
