Committee of Supply 2026 debate, Day 3: Kenneth Tiong on air-conditioning in classrooms

02:45 Min

Research has found that each degree of temperature increase cuts learning by one to two per cent, said MP Kenneth Tiong in parliament on Monday (Mar 2). With international schools and independent schools having air-conditioned classrooms while neighbourhood schools have ceiling fans, an unfair learning gap may be forming, he said. Mr Tiong asked if the Ministry of Education will establish indoor temperature standards for classrooms and commit to a timeline for phased installation of mixed-mode air-conditioning in all classrooms.
