Committee of Supply 2026 debate, Day 4: Yeo Wan Ling on lower-wage workers and inclusive workplace
A merit-based workplace must give workers the confidence that they have a future in a transforming economy, said MP Yeo Wan Ling. Speaking in parliament on Tuesday (Mar 3), she highlighted the need for productivity growth to come from upgrading jobs and not simply by adding manpower. Lower-wage workers are more exposed to displacement risks if transformation outpaces reskilling, she said. She wanted to know if the government could strengthen the Progressive Wage Credit into a more sustained mechanism to support workers.
