Murali Pillai on multi-pronged approach to resolving community disputes
Some Singaporeans are understandably concerned after the fatal knife attack in Yishun last month that stemmed from a long-running noise dispute between neighbours. Senior Minister of State for Law Murali Pillai, who highlighted this concern in reply to MPs’ questions in parliament on Tuesday (Oct 14), said the government will continue its efforts to strengthen the Community Dispute Management Framework. It is also piloting a directed mediation framework in Tampines. He stressed the need for everyone to press ahead with the important work of building up the community’s capacity to practise self-moderation and to engage with each other when disputes arise. He also updated the House on the effectiveness of various dispute resolution mechanisms.
