Committee of Supply 2026 debate, Day 2: Wan Rizal on accessible legal aid

02:10 Min

Legal problems do not come with a warning and access to justice cannot become a “justice tax”, said MP Wan Rizal in parliament on Friday (Feb 27). Given the cost-of-living concerns, he wanted to know how the Ministry of Law will continue to ensure that legal aid remains accessible to lower-income Singaporeans. He also wanted to know if the ministry will review whether there is a growing access gap for lower and middle-income Singaporeans who may not qualify for legal aid but cannot afford private legal representation, and how they can be prevented from falling through the cracks.
