22:13 Min

Advancing the cause of women’s development is a journey without end, and every generation must find new ways to elevate women. Communications and Information Minister Josephine Teo said this when she wrapped up the debate on the White Paper on Singapore Women’s Development in Parliament on Tuesday (Apr 5). She said its plans, when fully implemented, promise to realise more closely the vision of a fairer, more inclusive society where men and women can pursue their aspirations freely and to the fullest. Mrs Teo said the greatest contribution of the more than nine-hour debate on the White Paper was in upholding the values Singapore holds dear as a society and which will serve as its North Star in seeking the next milestones in women’s development. She identified those values as equality, partnership and mutual respect between women and men. The White Paper was unanimously endorsed by the House.
