Budget 2025 debate: Ang Wei Neng on support for caregivers of persons with special needs
To lighten the burden of caregivers of persons with special needs (PSNs), MP Ang Wei Neng proposed on Wednesday (Feb 26) that the Ministry of Social and Family Development provide a quarterly grant of S$200 to caregivers who hold a blue CHAS card, "similar to the Silver Support Scheme", he said. “As a parent of a child with special needs, I know first-hand that caring for the PSN is a lifelong mission. It is not easy,” he said. Speaking in parliament, he also highlighted the issue of seniors who live in segmented HDB units without direct lift access, a situation which is now posing a significant challenge to them. “What was once a prized feature has now become a source of frustration and hardship,” he stated.
