Budget 2025 debate: Keith Chua on support for vulnerable groups

19:55 Min

There are still vulnerable groups in Singapore that current and future policies have to address, said NMP Keith Chua in parliament on Thursday (Feb 27). For example, people with disabilities and special needs including autism require extra support in adulthood if they are unable to work. People with mental health conditions who cannot be gainfully employed while they are in recovery may need financial support such as a disability allowance. These groups should also be enabled to benefit from lifelong learning through tailored options, said Mr Chua. He also spoke at length about suicide prevention - delving into at-risk demographics including youths and adolescents, migrant workers, the neurodiverse population, the elderly, caregivers and members of the LGBTQ community.
