Cai Yinzhou on Workplace Fairness (Dispute Resolution) Bill

03:15 Min

The Workplace Fairness (Dispute Resolution) Bill is a landmark legislation towards creating fairer and more equitable workplaces, said MP Cai Yinzhou. Speaking in parliament on Tuesday (Nov 4), he pointed out that some non-unionised workers are disadvantaged due to their inability to have legal representation during mediation of Employment Claims Tribunals (ECT) proceedings. He wanted to know what resources are available to support non-unionised workers through the ECT procedures. Turning to the proposal to hold court proceedings in private, he pointed out that there is significant public interest in serious workplace discrimination cases and to hold employers accountable. He wanted to know if a High Court's discretion to publish is flexible enough to ensure public accountability of employers found to have committed discriminatory acts.
