Committee of Supply 2022 debate, Day 3: Tan Kiat How on support for SMEs in digital transformation
As Singapore emerges from the COVID-19 pandemic, the Government will sustain the growth momentum in two ways. Firstly, it will provide businesses, particularly small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), with the tools and support to transform. Secondly, it will nurture a future-ready workforce with the qualifications and skills to get good jobs in the tech sector and progress well in their careers. Minister of State for Communications and Information Tan Kiat How, who said this in Parliament on Friday (Mar 4), highlighted several ways to achieve this. One way is to provide stronger support for SMEs to adopt more advanced tech capabilities. Firms will also get support to tap more e-commerce platforms to reach international markets. The Government will also nurture a "strong pipeline" of local tech talent, while ensuring the tech workforce remains relevant and competitive in the rapidly changing digital space.
