Committee of Supply 2024 debate, Day 2: Sylvia Lim on access for non-English speakers

01:00 Min

MP Sylvia Lim said many elderly residents in her constituency are not proficient in English and they face difficulties in accessing legal information. This is because most of the legal information provided by Government agencies is written in English. In Parliament on Thursday (Feb 29), she said the Ministry of Law (MinLaw) has made some improvements in this regard. An example is translating the brochures of the Legal Aid Bureau and Public Defender’s Office into other official languages. She wanted to know if MinLaw can provide other measures to assist this group in accessing legal information.
