Committee of Supply 2026 debate, Day 2: Alex Yeo on access to legal aid and enforcement of civil judgments

04:20 Min

Legal proceedings can often be a frustrating and stressful process for individuals, and even after obtaining a judgment in their favour, there is still the matter of enforcing the judgment, which can sometimes be an equal, if not more trying, process. MP Alex Yeo said this in parliament on Friday (Feb 27). He asked the Law Minister to share updates on the proposed enhancements to the civil enforcement process. He also wanted to know if the Ministry of Law has plans to review the means-testing threshold for civil legal aid, and if it will consider a tiered approach to means testing for legal aid in areas of law, to allow more Singaporean families to benefit from legal assistance.
