Committee of Supply 2026 debate, Day 3: Murali Pillai on stewarding next bound of development

11:13 Min

The Ministry of Law (MinLaw) will steward the next bound of Singapore’s development in three ways - with the private, public and people sectors. With the private sector, it will empower businesses through intellectual property (IP) as an engine of growth. One key initiative is a public consultation later this year on the potential refinements to engage broader perspectives and co-create the approach to AI-related IP. With the public, it will facilitate the resolution of disputes, work with industry on education and the use of legal tech to reduce repetitive and low-value tasks, as well as provide opportunities in emerging areas. With the people, MinLaw will take a targeted approach to build capability to give the profession the skills, courage and moral instincts suited for tumultuous times. Senior Minister of State for Law Murali Pillai outlined these priorities in parliament on Monday (Mar 2).
