Committee of Supply 2026 debate, Day 5: Jeffrey Siow on COE car category review and rail developments
COE car categories will be reviewed in light of Category A and B prices converging. This is due to manufacturers adjusting car specifications in recent years so that they fit within Cat A. Acting Transport Minister Jeffrey Siow said the Land Transport Authority will gather views from the public and industry on how to improve the COE categorisation for cars. In parliament on Wednesday (Mar 4), he also revealed that the opening of the Jurong Region Line (JRL) Stage 1 will be delayed by six months to mid-2028 due to construction delays and testing. He announced a new JRL station between Tengah and Choa Chu Kang, targeted to open in the mid-2030s in tandem with housing developments in the area. Laying out his ministry’s spending plans for the year, Mr Siow said its work is anchored on three principles - being globally oriented, future-focused and people-centric.
