Committee of Supply 2026 debate, Day 5: Sun Xueling on future-focused and people-centric transport system
As Singapore navigates the global climate of uncertainty, it never loses sight of the longer-term horizon in aviation, said Senior Minister of State for Transport Sun Xueling. It is already preparing its infrastructure to support this by building Terminal 5. It is also preparing the workforce to stay at the forefront, she told parliament on Wednesday (Mar 4). The Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore will work with the Institutes of Higher Learning to integrate professional training and undergraduate education. It will enhance the workplace environment and experience for the Changi workforce, as well as work with NTUC to develop a sector-wide mentorship scheme. Ms Sun also announced measures to improve safety of worker transport. From Jan 1 next year, the government will ban the ferrying of workers in caged lorries. Turning to efforts to make the streets safer, she said the government will roll out another 20 Friendly Streets over the next few years. By 2030, every town will have at least one Friendly Street.
