Edwin Tong on rental cap for Geylang Serai Ramadan Bazaar 2024

03:21 Min

A rental cap will be introduced for stalls at the Geylang Serai Ramadan Bazaar 2024 due to several factors. First, the event will likely be smaller because of redevelopment work at the Geylang Serai Cultural Belt. Second, it will likely be shorter. The rental framework was also reviewed in light of “learning points” from the 2023 edition, including feedback from stallholders and patrons. Culture, Community and Youth Minister Edwin Tong said this in Parliament on Wednesday (Nov 22), in response to an MP’s questions. Mr Tong said the People’s Association and Wisma Geylang Serai will continue to review the rental framework in light of prevailing conditions for future bazaars and trade fairs. As for the pricing of rentals for hawker centres and commercial properties, he said other Government agencies may have different policies and considerations.
