New measures to deter high rental bids for hawker stalls in popular locations

Hawkers bidding for stalls will be subject to a revised tender scheme, starting this month. The National Environment Agency (NEA) said this is to deter high bids for stalls at popular locations. This was announced at an awards ceremony recognising exemplary hawkers who have helped shape the local hawker scene. Meanwhile, Serangoon Garden Market and Food Centre has been crowned Singapore's favourite hawker centre. Rachel Teng and Nadirah Zaidi report.
