Rahayu Mahzam on appeals by IP policyholders relating to definition of medical terminologies

05:17 Min

The Ministry of Health (MOH) does not track the number of appeals made by Integrated Shield Plan (IP) policyholders against insurers’ interpretation of medical terminologies. Policyholders who feel their claims have been unfairly rejected and cannot reach a satisfactory resolution with their insurers can seek recourse from the Clinical Claims Resolution Process or the Financial Industry Disputes Resolution Centre. MOH and the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) work together on regulatory oversight of IP insurers and if there are unfair claims or mishandling of practices, MAS will investigate and take action, including asking insurers to review past cases and compensate policyholders where necessary. Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Health Rahayu Mahzam gave these details in the House on Wednesday (Nov 9) in answer to an MP’s questions.
