Foo Cexiang on Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (Amendment) Bill

07:13 Min

Singapore is taking a novel approach to introducing sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), through a levy rather than a mandate. Its intent is to fix the cost of using greener jet fuel and manage costs by procuring SAF centrally to reap economies of scale. While its target for the use of SAF may not be as ambitious as some other countries, it is backed by a robust and deliverable plan. MP Foo Cexiang made these points in parliament on Tuesday (Oct 14). He also favoured a transparent charge to travellers rather than to airlines, to avoid giving the latter a pretext to raise prices in a potentially less open manner.
