Hamid Razak on Veterinary Practice Bill

08:19 Min

Good regulation is not only about how strongly we deter misconduct but is also about how confidently good professionals can practise and how clearly citizens can navigate the system, said MP Hamid Razak. Speaking in parliament on Wednesday (Apr 8), he stressed the need for clear published guidelines and wanted to know how recognition pathways, including for overseas trained veterinarians, can be made clear and predictable while maintaining standards. He also asked if there is the possibility of a locally administered veterinary degree. Turning to affordability and consumer trust, he pointed out that even if fees are outside the scope of the Veterinary Practice Bill, the government should consider what can be done to strengthen transparency, including discussion on upfront costs in urgent or high stakes situations.
