Zaqy Mohamad on migrant workers being informed of their rights and laws against illegal assembly
The number of salary claims filed by migrant workers has fallen “significantly” in recent years, with an average of about 160 a month this year compared with 410 a month in 2019. Giving the figure in Parliament on Wednesday (Nov 9), Senior Minister of State for Manpower Zaqy Mohamad said migrant workers are comprehensively informed of their employment rights and support channels available to them in the event of problems or disputes, as well as about behaving responsibly and laws against unlawful assembly or procession in public places. This is done during their settling-in programme after arrival in Singapore, as well as through various online and physical platforms. Mr Zaqy was answering an MP’s question after some migrant workers protested outside a building in Ang Mo Kio last month over unpaid wages.
