Zhulkarnain Abdul Rahim on Online Safety (Miscellaneous Amendments) Bill
It is important to take a calibrated and multi-stakeholder approach while keeping a close eye on emerging technologies in dealing with online harm, said MP Zhulkarnain Abdul Rahim. Speaking in Parliament on Tuesday (Nov 8), he said although the Bill is focused on platform and service providers, there is also a need to focus on the users, particularly the victims of online harm. He suggested providing legal pro bono advice under the Legal Aid Bureau for individuals facing online harm. He also suggested standardising the process of reporting of online harm across all platforms. He also called for platform and broadcasting service providers to be included in public awareness campaigns to raise online safety.
