Committee of Supply 2021 debate, Day 1: Foo Mee Har on fiscal accountability for support schemes

The Jobs Support Scheme was the biggest cost item in the Government’s unprecedented expenditure to fight COVID-19, but questions have arisen about whether it could have been more targeted, said MP Foo Mee Har in Parliament on Friday (Feb 26). She asked the Government to explain how it channelled the support and what was the rationale to provide assistance across the board. With more support being directed to new areas like R&D and start-ups, Ms Foo also asked how the return on such investments will be evaluated.
