Committee of Supply 2022 debate, Day 4: Yeo Wan Ling on charging for plastic bags, handling of e-waste

02:17 Min

In Parliament on Monday (Mar 7), MP Yeo Wan Ling sought clarity on how supermarkets might charge for disposable carrier bags from 2023. Her concern was that people may take more bags than they need after paying the fee, as many have a habit of reusing the bags as trash bags. Ms Yeo also asked if there has been an increase in e-waste collection since a system was introduced in mid-2021, placing greater responsibility on producers and retailers to ensure that such items are properly collected and handled when they reach end of life.
