Committee of Supply 2023 debate, Day 1: Murali Pillai on prevention of corruption
The director of the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau is vested with powers under the Prevention of Corruption Act (PCA) to investigate corruption. At the same time, anti-corruption provisions dealing with public servants in the Penal Code fall under the purview of the police. This raises a potential jurisdictional issue, said MP Murali Pillai in Parliament on Friday (Feb 24). He also suggested that the ambit of the PCA be extended to situations where acts of foreign bribery are committed by Singapore companies.
