Committee of Supply 2023 debate, Day 2: Derrick Goh on enforcement of community dispute and civil litigation orders

The current community dispute resolution framework needs more bite to ensure that orders and agreements are complied with. MP Derrick Goh made this point in Parliament on Monday (Feb 27), citing public feedback. He called for tighter enforcement and a “more proactive stance” by assigning trained counsellors to mediate disputes on the ground. Mr Goh also brought up the issue of civil litigation proceedings where a monetary “judgement sum” is issued but not paid, making it a “paper judgement”. He asked what measures the Ministry of Law is considering to improve enforcement.
