With the ComCare Endowment Fund getting a S$300 million top-up in Budget 2023, what will be the impact on dollar payouts and the number of people assisted? He asked if the Ministry of Social and Family Development would trial higher ComCare amounts to test the effect on real outcomes, including the “trampoline” effect to enable beneficiaries to bounce back instead of being too anxious about day-to-day survival to plan ahead. Mr Perera also asked about the SupportGoWhere website. He wanted to know if the number of schemes and application procedures can be streamlined, pointing out that there are in fact other potential schemes that are not even on the portal yet. On the topic of financial assistance schemes, he urged the ministry to provide a declarative option for applicants who find it hard to produce documentation or feel embarrassed about having family members interviewed. If they are found to have made false declarations, they can be penalised.
