Singapore can look at what other jurisdictions have done in the fight against scams, said MP Christopher de Souza in Parliament on Thursday (Feb 29). He gave the example of the UK, which has allowed sharing of information across the banking and finance sectors on emerging threats and compromised card details as well as blocking high-risk advertisements and number-spoofing. China, meanwhile, has issued arrest warrants for major players in the scam space, especially those linked to the junta in Myanmar. Mr de Souza said ASEAN could consider how to deal with allies of the Myanmar regime who are actively involved in or even overseeing scam farms. He said building an infrastructure and legislative regime that ensures responsibility is shared among the right actors will also incentivise those actors to address current lapses. Mr de Souza also spoke about deterring the use of recreational cannabis and rehabilitating former offenders.
