Melvin Yong on Social Residential Homes Bill
This Social Residential Homes Bill is timely as Singapore proactively addresses the structure and function of its social residential homes to ensure that they can meet both present and future needs and challenges, said MP Melvin Yong. Speaking in parliament on Tuesday (Apr 8), he raised concerns that the new licensing requirements could lead to higher regulatory costs. He wanted to know the projected increase in costs that will be passed on to consumers. Turning to the one-off support package to help homes transit to the new licensing regime, Mr Yong asked if the government could consider a stepped-down support package to help defray the expected increases in recurring operational costs for a few more years.
