Ministerial statement: Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim on Singaporeans’ response to the situation in the Middle East
Recognition of a Palestinian State is what Singapore hopes for and something that the government is working towards, said Acting Minister-in-charge of Muslim Affairs Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim. In a ministerial statement in parliament on Monday (Sep 22), he said this is not a question of “if” but “when” it will happen. Singapore may not recognise Palestine today, but it will not be a silent onlooker to the tragedy unfolding in Gaza, he said. Singapore will intensify humanitarian assistance to alleviate the suffering of Palestinians and continue to extend practical support to the Palestinian Authority’s capacity building efforts in preparation for the eventual statehood of Palestine one day, he added. He also highlighted the efforts of Singaporeans to help create the conditions for Palestine to recover to meet the criteria for its recognition.
