Razwana Begum Abdul Rahim on Protection from Scams Bill
The Protection from Scams Bill is an important addition to Singapore's existing suite of initiatives designed to identify, prevent and prosecute financial scams, said NMP Razwana Begum Abdul Rahim in Parliament on Tuesday (Jan 7). Voicing her support for the Bill, Assoc Prof Razwana highlighted that it empowers the police to issue Restriction Orders (ROs) to banks to restrict an individual’s banking transaction if there is reasonable belief that the individual will make money transfers to scammers. Seeking clarification on several issues of concern, she noted that ROs will be issued only as a last resort but wanted to know who is responsible for attempting to convince the individual and what is meant by those attempts being exhausted.
