Committee of Supply 2026 debate, Day 3: Kenneth Poon on curriculum access for SEN students
Students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) thrive in mainstream environments when the necessary support is in place. However, there are some students with SEN who are able to engage with aspects of the national curriculum, but whose constant participation in classroom instruction depends on support that is not always available within the school environment. NMP Kenneth Poon, who highlighted this concern in parliament on Monday (Mar 2), wanted to know how classroom instruction is adapted for students who need support that may not be constant or consistently available within mainstream schools. He also wanted to know how SEN students and their families are involved in shaping the kind of support they receive in mainstream schools.
