Sharael Taha on Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (Amendment) Bill

11:14 Min

How will Singapore ensure a stable supply of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and manage price volatility, while investing in future capability and production? This was one question raised by MP Sharael Taha in parliament on Tuesday (Oct 14), on the implementation of an SAF levy and fund. Noting that the SAF transition provides a significant economic opportunity, he asked how the fund will contribute towards creating new green industries, good jobs and regional leadership for Singapore. Mr Sharael also wanted to know if the Government has assessed the potential impact of the levy on Singapore’s attractiveness as an air transit and cargo hub, and what mitigation strategies are being considered. Finally, he emphasised the need for fairness in cost-sharing among passengers and industry stakeholders, adding that there must be clarity on conditions to be met before any future price revisions are made.
