Motion: Tin Pei Ling on reinforcing Singapore’s position as a global transport hub

30:33 Min

Global connectivity is existential for Singapore and matters more than ever in an uncertain world. It enables economic prosperity to improve Singaporeans’ lives. MP Tin Pei Ling said this as she moved a motion in parliament on Tuesday (Jul 7), on reinforcing the country’s position as a global transport hub. Ms Tin said three factors are critical for success - frontier technologies, international cooperation and world-class infrastructure. She urged the government to beef up R&D into AI applications and governance across land, sea and air transport. Given Singapore’s hub status, it could generate innovative transport solutions not just for its own benefit but to export to other countries, enhancing interoperability. Ms Tin called for work towards a fully intermodal “One Singapore transport twin” for transformative AI gains and to prepare carefully for agentic AI. She also said Singapore should push harder for international cooperation on connectivity, especially within ASEAN as the country assumes the chairmanship of the bloc next year.
