What is the Singapore President’s role?

The President is the Head of State and holds office for a term of 6 years.

The President is a symbol and unifier of a diverse and multi-racial Singapore. He or she is also the custodian of the nation's past reserves and the integrity of its public service.

Voter FAQ

To qualify to vote at a contested election, your name must be in the certified register of electors. You must satisfy the following criteria:

  1. Singapore citizen (holder of pink NRIC)
  2. Not less than 21 years of age
  3. Not disqualified from being an elector under any prevailing law
  4. Have a Singapore residential address on your NRIC. If you live overseas and have an overseas address on your NRIC, you must have a local contact address in Singapore registered with the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority

Voting is compulsory for Singaporeans aged 21 and above.

If you are away on Polling Day, you will not be able to cast your vote. Your name will be removed from the register of electors after the election.

Here’s where you can apply to restore your name to the register using your Singpass: https://www.eld.gov.sg/online.html

Be at your allotted polling station between 8am and 8pm to cast your vote. Things to note include:

  • Bring your NRIC or digital IC on Singpass app for verification
  • Mark your choice clearly with an “X” in one of the empty boxes on your ballot paper
  • Drop your ballot paper into the ballot box and leave the station immediately after that
